Costs and Paying for Treatment

Fertility Associates offers treatment for both publicly and privately funded patients and free publicly funded fertility treatment is an option for many patients.

Over 60% of IVF cycles in New Zealand are publicly funded so it is important to see whether you are eligible. Only a fertility specialist can do this – your doctor at Fertility Associates can explain your options, including whether or when you might be eligible for public funding.

Many patients use a combination of public and private funding to maximise their overall chance of having a child.

Public Funding

The criteria for public funding are designed to ensure public money is best spent. This includes the need for treatment and the chance of treatment being successful. Third Cycle Initiative

This is a scheme we are running in our Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch clinics to improve access to treatment. The purpose of this initiative is to allow more couples to undertake a third cycle of IVF and increase their chances of having a baby. The initiative involves a rebate of $1,200, which is a contribution towards the cost of the drugs used in an IVF cycle.

To be eligible to enrol in this scheme you must meet the following criteria:

  • You have completed at least two IVF cycles with Fertility Associates (either public or private treatment), but have not yet taken home a baby
  • A third cycle (or fourth, fifth, etc) is recommended by your doctor.
  • You must be a non-smoker and aged 42 or less (unless using donor eggs).
  • This rebate is only available for one round of IVF per patient and is credited to your final account.

There are limited places available so people should register their interest early or find out more information by discussing this scheme with either our Auckland, Hamilton or Christchurch clinics.

Private Funding

Fertility Associates has recently negotiated with Nova Medical Finance to provide funding options for fertility treatment. Nova is New Zealand’s largest specialist medical financier and provides finance for a wide range of medical and dental procedures. Fertility Associates decided it was best to link with a specialist medical finance company that understands patient issues such as confidentiality and the need for a timely response. Nova is run by health professionals and works with leading medical specialists. It is able to offer some of the lowest personal loan rates available.

By being affiliated with Nova Medical Finance, Fertility Associates can ensure our patients receive these competitive rates. Either contact Nova directly (www.novamedical.co.nz) or our clinics can provide an introduction to this service. The focus of this service is to provide patients with more choice – Fertility Associates does not receive any commission or financial consideration from Nova Medical Finance.

Fertility Associates also offer Fertility CoverTMFertility CoverTM gives you three chances to have a baby – and also gives you the comfort of knowing in advance what the cost of your treatment will be. As extra reassurance, if the treatment should prove to be unsuccessful we will refund 70% of the cost of the programme, reducing the financial stress of private treatment. Typical cost of an IVF or an IVF with ICSI cycle

 The cost of an IVF or ICSI cycle varies from couple to couple depending on their individual circumstances.

Typical costs (including an average cost for drugs) are outlined in the IVF Fees Guide which can be viewed by following this link – view IVF Fees Guide (PDF). The costs outlined in this fees guide show average costs for an IVF or ICSI cycle.

The main variation in costs are due to:
  • the amount of drugs an individual patient needs;
  • whether your pathology lab requires you to pay for blood tests;
  • whether you are having scans outside of a Fertility Associates clinic;
  • whether there is another service required for your cycle which is outside the standard IVF cycle e.g. assisted hatching or back up sperm freezing and storage.
